Monday Musings: Hip Hop, Bad Feet, What to Watch

Don't ask, because I dunno.

I’m ashamed to say that lately I have not been my blogging self. Other things have intervened, and occasionally I wonder if in my case, everything new is old again, as long as I’ve been doing this.

But I’m old, retired and highly opinionated, so I’m not going anywhere. And while I have yet to wade into the topic of Canadian Truckers or Russian Doping, any of the other available hot button issues,  I cannot promise that will not happen. But I’m here to stay, even if I take a break now and then.

Speaking of questionable topics, we’ve had the superbowl since we spoke last. While I won’t wax poetic on the topic of the Bengals losing, I am here to say this: Color me however you want, but I loved the halftime show.

Music is music and good music is good music be it hip hop or R&B or Classic Rock or Classic or Country or Jazz. I’m old, but not so set in my ways that I can’t appreciate new music or the talent of a group of people who might be my first choice. It’s definitely in my top ten, and I’d rather hear Mary J Blige even for a moment on any day than a whole bunch of the previous halftime stars. Now, if the senior center would stop playing forties and fifties music day in and day out, I would be a happy camper!

In other news, I either stepped on a stone or something, have a bone spur, or entered the Plantar Fasciitis zone.  Oh Joy. For now I have my most padded sandals on, am stretching my foot as often as I can and walking for as long as tolerable. I also did some Youtube research.  Seriously people, check out Bob and Brad on Youtube. They will make your day. The most famous physical therapists on the web.

I really needed a new puzzle. Not. But in addition to wordle and spelling be, there’s no good old quordle for us word game addicts. You can do four games, yes, four games, all at the same time. Just make sure you have your caffeine first if that is your addiction, trust me. There’s also a choral word guessing game called Byrdle, but let’s just say that’s out of my area of expertise. Someone else got my share of vocal ability and musical talent. Maybe two people, lol.

While my Kindle is as full as always, I’m making a second effort to get through The Devil in the White City (I failed the first). It’ll be a TV series on Netflix (pretty sure) with Kenau Reeves as the star, and I try to read books before the series that follow. I’ve temporarily canceled all my British and European TV show subscriptions, so I could use some series and movie suggestions, if you’ve got them. As long as they’re not Hallmark or Brigerton related.

Am I weird that I’m excited that Law and Order is coming back? I love me some Sam Waterson. This must mean that Grace and Frankie has reached its end.

And finally today, I may have bitten off more than I can chew. I always let people know that I will take fabric scraps or pieces, or old clothing that can be cut up so I can use them as part of my goal to make sustainable art and quilts. This week I got a huge bags full. Cutting them into usable pieces is giving my hands range of motion issues that I haven’t had since working on the PC full time!

  1. The picture looks more like your shin. I hope it all gets better soon. My hands are not up to lots of cutting. But, it is nice to to get scraps.

  3. Ouch! Be careful Barb! My hands & wrists are so sore all the time. Too much degenerative osteoarthritis, bit I keep going! I agree with you re: MJ Blige. I actually like a lot of her music. The others from 1/2 time didn't do much for me though.

    1. I just love all music. Part of it is that I sit and cut instead if standing

  4. Getting older is really an adventure. Hope things get easier for you. Be very careful with that wound. It's pretty puffy around it, and it may take forever to heal. If your skin around it starts weeping or oozing, you need to see a wound care specialist. Much better than waiting around for it to worsen.

  5. Please don't publish this. Barb this is to let you know that I deleted the blog "five acre garden" that is currently on your blog list. I am starting a new one but do not know how active it will be. https://unittwoeleven.blogspot.com/ (unit two eleven) Feel free to add if you like but my feelings won't be hurt if you don't. :) Take care of yourself, that looks like a nasty scrape. 7. The nicest thing about having a blog is posting whenever you feel like it.
Hope the issues with the foot are over soon!

    1. I'd prefer it to be Plantar f. Than a bone spur. I'm never in pain when I'm not walking whatever that means.

  9. Good golly on that wound! Our skin gets so thin and more sensitive. And takes longer to heal. Especially with diabetes.

I enjoyed half time on Super Bowl also. Mainly because it appealed to the tweenager, and it's a new generation of viewers. I don't like the vulgar rap songs but otherwise there is a story to be told.

Have you watched Yellowstone or the prequel 1883?
