Yesterday I had an MRI. Of my pelvis. It really wasn't too bad. What with a cloth over my face and classical music in the headphones. But oh, the sound my friends, the sound! This is nothing to panic about. I have a fibroid in my ovary of all places and have been having quarterly sonograms for years to track it. This time I went with the MRI to get more info since I have a family history of ovarian ca. If it starts hurting, I dont even know how one gets rid of an ovarian fibroid, lol.
Apparently my science knowledge is worse than I thought. I joked about someone having the opportunity to win a Nobel prize for inventing an MRI machine and was informed by my daughter that it's an electromagnetic thing and unless the laws of physics changed, it was not going to happen. At least I had a good idea for minute there.
Meanwhile, after discussion with my doctor, we discerned that I had my first pneumonia shot prior to 60......AND that I had never had the follow up booster. So sometime in the near future I'm off to fulfill said obligation. Something I'm not seriously objecting to after my "cold that was worse than the flu where I could not breathe or stop coughing" experience.
If that wasn't enough, about a year and a half ago (after more than one blog post asking reader opinions), I finely had my shingles shot. Did you know that there is now a better, more effective and reliable shot? The CDC recommends everyone over 50 now have this shot, including those who previously had the other shot. So this will need to be put on my schedule as well!!!
Dont get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I am fully in favor of modern medicine, its miracles and improvements. Remember, I have a husband who died from Hep C a little over ten years ago and now there is a cure. An expensive cure but a cure none the less. So I respect the changes modern medicine makes. Especially in the area of prevention.
It can, however, be a little frustrating to fulfill the checklist. And realize that the checklist has not just changed, but remains a moving target.
And on that note I'm off to train someone on my volunteer gig, do lunch and a craft for my homeless women and then come home and experiment with my new self designed, mainly sitting exercise routine.
What does your Tuesday include?

One time I received a lavender eye pillow before an MRI, and that made all the difference in my anxiety level. Main order of business today is voting.

Ah yes. I'm expecting my primary ballot soon.
DeleteOh boy, I can sure empathize. GP, opthomologist, endocrinologist, everyone wants blood work. One test after another. No one told me retirement would be like this. I just deal with it though. It's keeping me healthy. Now, if only they could do something about this pain. I refuse to take Lyrica. So many bad side effects.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the loss of your husband. The silent disease. No one knows until it is too late. My husband had Hep C too. He had a fairly high viral load and failed at the old medication. Then they came up with this new medication and so far he has been undetectable. We were blessed.
I am always thrilled with that kind of thing.i do not have too manifests thank heavens and my go acts as my gyno!I take pot f or pain.
DeleteI've had plenty of fibroid cysts in my breasts, but no experience with ovarian fibroids. Hope you find out soon what the next step is, if any.
ReplyDeleteMy Tuesday plans are too boring to write about. I'm living vivaciously through you today, so have fun! LOL
I expect they're gonna say, yeah, fibroids. Unless you are in pain keep up the sonos is and call us later. I had a lovely time so far, nose tami g a break before my trusty meeting. I may even need to skip knitting tomorrow.
DeleteModern medicine is a fantastic thing but you are right, trying to keep caught up with it is daunting.
ReplyDeleteMy Tuesday will consist of writing, yard work and ancestry. Should be a good day.
Have a good day Barbara
You have a full day as well l I see.
DeleteYes to needed vaccines but do check to see if your insurance covers the new one because I read that it was not on all providers lists yet. I need to check if it is covered for me too. BTW, I had an ovarian cyst of a different kind when I was 19 and they surgically removed it. No exciting or even interesting plans here for the rest of the week. I was going to go to a movie with new friends but they picked one with an actress I can't stand so not going. Hmmm, need to find something to do!
ReplyDeleteYea, im not rushing into new shots! My daughter had an ovarian cyst so bad in high school she was chewing Percocet. I expect the decision on this will be the pain level, if any. Find another movie and go alone?
DeleteI hope this is nothing. In the mean time I would like to join your exercise routine. I can sit like nobody's business Barbara!!
ReplyDeleteLol.to be clear, the seated aerobics can also kick my butt!!
DeleteMy Tuesday included a trip to visit our financial planner, and working on getting my plants and veggie garden done. The veggie garden is completed (except for some eggplant if I can find any), but my flowers are only about half done. Hopefully tomorrow I can get a few more in.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.

ReplyDeleteMy Tuesday included a greenhouse tour - we stopped at 4. There's something so uplifting about the color and fragrance in a greenhouse. It's still a little early to set out bedding plants; I aim for the first week in June. The vegetable garden will get planted this w/e.
ReplyDeletePneumonia shot ... check. Shingles shot ... check. We should all do what we can to keep the evils at bay.
