What a Mess!!!

Just a quick note, peeps. After some emails questioning the value of a few no spend weeks along with some questions about my quality of life during such, I've decided to post a weekly blow by blow day by day summary of what I did and made, where I went and so on for the week. I may just do that weekly from now on.

For those who have a desire to see an update daily, I'll have a brief summary each day over on my Facebook page. As I told someone today  while admire my fellow blggers who post daily, that's not me, at least not right now. My Friday post will include everything that is on FB.

The sun out, today is eighty  degrees and a lovely spring day. I've been to church, spent quality time outside with the dogs and generally enjoyed the earlier part of the day.

Now,  however I am seated on my bed, surrounded by much of my closet. That commitment to get my retirement house in order during my no spend month? Yes, I meant it literally. And I've set a time limit for myself because starting in June the Frugal Retiree has hired a cleaner/helper for a couple weeks a month. I am absolutely not into the cleaning before the housekeeper comes kind of thing. But since I expect said housekeeper to delve into to some seriously almost filthy areas my heath prevents me from reaching, the least I could do was have things organized.

To add to the issue, my closet has things I don't like, that no longer fit and more. Just to give an example, while heading off to the wedding, my half slip literally fell off me to the ground. So I am trying on everything, letting go of a lot, and keeping only  what I love and a few  pieces for getting dirty around the house. I'm also taking a couple pair of "slowly getting too big" pants and cutting them into capris/crops, and hanging on to just two pairs of pants that shrunk for the future, in case.

The end result? A pile of discarded items from clothing to accessories, much of it in good condition. I had thought briefly about trying to resell some better stuff at a consignment store or even at an online consignment store like Swap.com.  Then I realized I just wanted it gone-so I will put it in a bag and offer it up on my Next Door or Facebook local page. Anything else is just too darn much effort, you know?

The downside of said purging is that once June arrives I will be ready to buy some clothes. More than some actually. But summer sales will be starting, and by then I should have an actual list of what I want to buy. At least that's the plan.

My bedroom is not the only mess round here. Yesterday we had the yard aerated. The ground was so hard we couldn't dig out the dandelions. To the inexperienced, this is what an aerated yard looks like before rain or watering (you want all those little soil plugs to go back into the ground). And yes, that is exactly what it looks like, lol.

Happy Sunday.

  1. I hate you are going to go to FB. I don't follow bloggers there. How are you going to get the plugs back into the ground?

    1. Sorry, the dirt plugs break down in the rain or when watered.

  2. Linda, I am already on Facebook and have been, along with Instagram and Twitter. I'll still post here three times a week and Friday will be a weekly summary, but I cannot simply commit to a full blog post seven days a week. so for those who DO already follow me on FB, there will be that. I would like to promise a daily blog and I admire those of you who do, just not sure I am there. Hence social media. Again, not going anywhere.

  3. Interesting about the aerating plugs. I've never seen them before. I know it does the ground a lot of good though.

Good luck finding a cleaning service that does heavy cleaning. All I've been able to find are the kind that do the weekly/biweekly surface cleaning with no digging in cupboards and closets or window and wall washing.

I've never followed a blogger to Facebook either, just seems more complicated for you to maintain two places. Hope it works out for you.

  4. Jean, I really don't expect anyone to follow me there. Like I told Linda I already have a large FB following. I guess I need to edit the post on too. Every Frifay I will have a blow by how day by day of my no spend week. For those who need to know tonight what I did today they can travel to FB. Everyone else I'll see 3 days a week as always. My cleaning person is just a gal, not a service and she will occasionally do other things like caulking, bless her.

  5. We usually get the lawn aerated every two years, and I always tell Harvey it looks as if a dog or cat decided to use our lawn as a bathroom every few inches. Like you say it gets better as the plugs break down.

    God bless.

    1. And we have to get it done twice a year. Sigh.

  6. I'm familiar with aeration since I play golf. That's what keeps the grass so green. Never done it in my lawn, though. I never put two and two together though ... maybe that's why my lawn is full of weeds and turns brown by July.

  7. Perhaps, lol. We have very hard dirt with clay so it's always a problem and gets uneven bumps.

  8. I bet you will be happy once you have your wardrobe culled down to what you like, fits and suits you. My closet could use a cleaning too - literally the closet lol. I'm off to check out your Facebook page.

  9. I commend your ambition re: closet purging. That's been on the to-do list for 5 yrs now! I keep asking: What's holding me back? I'm confident that your quality of life need not be impacted with no spending. I've just committed to 3 days at home because of the busy schedule the past few weeks. I'll enjoy the slow mornings, food prep, yard work, reading on the porch, good background music all at a leisurely pace.
