Getting Better.....

Confession time:  My house (and I ) are a complete shambles. Laundry nor bedding have been washed in two weeks with a couple small hand washing forays. Never mind the fact that much of my daily checklist has fallen by the wayside (I'll be accountable on Monday) and that my fun things are not as far along as I would like.

Unfortunately I don't get to blame all of this on freeze-mageddon. For me it was five days out of the month (thankfully, thankfully). Cabin fever had set in both because of the short Texas winter and our friend the pandemic, I have been experiencing full out exhaustion (as in sit in bed daily till ten am) and the nerves on the outside of my knees are so sensitive many days it has hurt to have anything touch them or get tighter as when I lean over or walk. And daughter has been really busy so we haven't dragged my clothes to her house and have been to lazy and cold to go to the laundry room in our community center.

Yes, it's been that kind of a month, more or less.

The good news is that some of those issues have resolved, or will resolve soon. And I should feel better and get more done. Soon.

First, my thyroid lab results were waaayyyyy down and the prescription written that I picked up yesterday was almost double the previous. Hopefully a week on that will make an improvement. Second, like a whole bunch of fellow bloggers and readers, I am counting down after shot number two to my ten days.  It's not like I'm gonna throw a  party or something, but I can see myself at an outdoor patio table with my also vaccinated daughter, going into the fabric store, and walking in crowded areas (while masked). Maybe even into my local used book store!  Not sure about the pool yet.

Third, I actually found out WHERE the laundry room is, got the stuff I need and have a rolling cart so I can be a grown up and do my own clothes (I promised myself that if I did the fluff and fold that usually costs fifty bucks  for everything I would put that same amount into savings and that has kept me back). I am still looking at washers and dryers and expect to have them by the end of March. Still not sure between front and top type.

Those things plus adding more carbs (yep) and having a full real breakfast should help. As should the fact  that I pulled out all my cotton, warm weather maxi dresses and knit skirts and am wearing sweaters over them except for exercise and out of the house stuff (for now, later I'll wear the dresses and skirts everywhere. I am not a pants person). Oh, and I also made a "station" next to my rocking recliner that all all the knitting and my sketch book and markers so all I have to do is bend over and I'll be ready to craft or design when energy lessens and I feel I might crash.

LOL

For the record, at  three days my arm both itches and hurts-to the touch . As in when I and scratch it's a small "ouch". I had minor chills much less than hot flash type on and off for two days (nothing I could not have forced myself to work through if I were still in my office) and a headache here and there and some extremely minor muscle aches. Again, nothing that would stop someone from doing things if they had to, but since I don't have to, I did not. And I obviously cannot evaluate the tiredness aspect since right now I am always tired!

Oh and boy do I have have an apartment story coming up, and not, it's not about the people upstairs. Not exactly anyway!

  1. My daughter got the modera vaccine. The first dose gave her a rash and the second she had a fever, chills, felt she had been doing yard work all day, and like you where her rash was it was itchy and hurt to scratch. It only lasted the day and she felt well enough to go to work the next day. Glad you feel better.

    1. Yes. I think alot.of worry is out there and supposedly the miderna had more side effects but really just a bump in the road.

  2. I have a front loader washing machine and it is fine for everything except heavy items (some blankets, bath rugs, comforters, etc. With those the weight while wet slows the spin cycle and I have to take them outside and drape them over chairs until enough water has evaporated to toss them in the dryer. I wish I had my ancient Maytag back!
I am now supposedly fully inoculated, but I will still only go places wearing a mask and will also refrain from going to a restaurant, other than picking up curbside to take home and eat. There are still too many holes in the data for me to feel truly comfortable.

  3. I understand your concerns. As the mother and mother in law of restaurant managers I know the food goes through the sane treatment either way and as I sat my daughter is fully vaccinated as well so I'm comfortable with her. I think I'll probably get a top loader in the end. No idea why it's taking me so long to decide...

  4. I'm getting my second Pfizer tomorrow. Very exciting. I might even dress up. Like you, I'm not going to do anything dramatic after the two-week waiting period, but I might walk through a craft store!

  5. Your "energy abates"? You want less energy?

    1. Not sure what you're asking here. The Riocker and corner is so that on the times when the energy goes away I still have things to do. Nowhere di I day I want it to. I generally use words I mean mainly?

  7. I just got my first Pfizer with no side effects except being very sleepy. Knock on wood for the second one. I hate itchy skin! Glad you're going better.

The disability community recommends front loaders because you can used them even if you're in a wheelchair. You aren't now but it's something to factor in to your decision.

    1. Yes. I don't want to buy another one so that's a consideration.

  8. As long as you have space for top loader, that's my preference for reasons Anne shared. I'm glad you'll get to hang out with your daughter again.

    1. I think it'll be a topper. I appreciate the issue of the wheel chair but when snd if that happens I'll probably hire some help.

  9. It sounds like you're on the road to feeling better and counting down those 10 days, post shot #2. That has to be encouraging. I'm anxious to get my second dose. Just wanted to throw out an observation regarding washers. The retirement home we purchased recently, had a newer set of front loaders. They work very well, but it nearly kills my back to do the necessary drying of the gasket around the door of the washer. I guess it becomes a haven for mold if you don't dry it. Plus, I prop the door open (not nearly as easy as keeping the lid up on a top loader)for 24 hrs after each use. I'll use the set until they need replacing, but I won't buy a frontload washer again. Just my opinion, Barb.

  10. I've had some of that cabin fever too, whew. I got behind on the laundry & was wearing the cleanest dirty for a day or 2...he he. I'm looking forward to the warmer weather forecasted, so I can get out & get more sunshine. Karen

  11. I was always a top loader because that’s what we always had and I thought top loaders must have done a better job as they used more water. Then I bought a front loader. I’m a convert. I do much less hand washing as it can handle delicates and woollens so gently.

It is interesting to read about the vaccines. They’ve only just started here in Australia. I’m off to see if I can find out what the ten days thing is. Can you enlighten me?

    1. Sure. You're not inr hundred percent covered until ten days to two weeks after shit two according to the various journals. I think fir now a top loafer would be better for my knees and the bend but I need to think on it.

  12. Congrats on your second shot ... from a poor, frustrated shotless senior.

  13. Thank goodness our washer is working for now. It's at least 10 years old so I don't know how much longer it will last. I'm waiting for my 2nd shot. I hope it doesn't get goofed up and I'm actually able to get it because it doesn't sound like the military hospital here have their act together.

  14. We're rescheduled for shot #2 Thursday. Moderna out of stock here in San Diego..Now back to giving them. Can hardly wait to rejoin the world in a few weeks. I'm still using top loader & am planning to stay with that style. Good luck on your decisions!

  15. I can see you going into fabric shops.....

I have a top loader and love it. I can see how a front loader would be better though in some circumstances.

    God bless.

  16. You're entitled to feel "blah" sometimes. We all are, especially in these difficult times. But reading your blog I see that you are generally a "glass half full" kind of person so I'm sure you'll be doing better real soon!

  17. I hope your arm is feeling better soon and that the thyroid meds provide a boost to your energy level.

If it is of any help, I hate my front loading washing machine. The water pools in the door and unless I'm vigilant in cleaning it up after every load it can get mold. My son isn't a diligent...that's how I know.

    Take care, stay well!
