Treating the Knee and Other Misadventures

Folks, I do not know how I missed such a typo!  The first floor not the third!! This is a ranch.........no stairs for me except to the basement laundry and I'll work that one out!

Last night, I spent some time at my brother's house, where I hoped to get my broken glasses fixed.  My sister in law was kind enough to invite me for dinner.  During our hour or so at the dining room table (that's my family, folks)) we discussed the logistics of moving.

In truth, we discussed the logistics of my sister's pack and move status. My task is simply to get a truck, reload it, move it across town and unload it.  Most of my things will go on the first floor. My sister still needs to pack her house, get it staged.............you get the idea. Thank heavens one sale is not dependent on the other!  I'm really wondering if she should not just pack up the house (barring obvious trash and donations) and simply have a yard sale after unpacking.  It is as they say, a conundrum! By the time I returned "home" it was well after midnight. Another reason to be thankful I no longer work or run a household.

Unfortunately, soldering my glasses was not an option. I am not a do it yourselfer in that area, but it would seem that the metal is coated, and a small piece of frame was missing.  The solution in this case?  You guessed it-superglue!  The glasses were taken to the workbench, where a slow-drying superglue was applied and the glasses were put in a very light vise.  While they are not fixed, they are Jerry-rigged and will function until mid August when I order new ones. My eye exam is next week and I am researching both online and warehouse club alternatives for eye wear.  My backup pair is, of course, wherever the box is that holds the items from my dresser.

Today I have been very sedentary, because I got poked in the knee. Sometime back I wrote about my severe arthritis and knee damage, and why I was not considering a knee replacement as an option.  Today I went in for one of my alternative therapies-a knee injection.  This injection is good for six months to a year, and is designed to lubricate and cushion the knee. Traditionally these injections were given in a set of three (one each side), but it seems the technology has changed.  Now there is one large injection per knee, and I had one today. The short term side effects of this injection are rough-pain, and soreness. The long term benefits have traditionally been good in the past, so I suffer through the pain. I sit on the recliner, legs up, with a pillow under my knee. Fortunately I took a walk this morning, because that will probably not happen for many days.

In other news, my son tagged along (In case the knee was too bad to drive) and had planned to take pictures of the actual procedure. Unfortunately, once he saw the eight foot needle, he had other plans and faced the wall.  I tried to explain that  there was just pressure, and the needle was really really thin, but he was not buying it (for those medical folk amongst us, it was a 25 gauge needle).  Ah well, we will have to settle for a stock picture today folks.

Meanwhile I have very laid back plans for the rest of this day-and possibly tomorrow (although tomorrow is generally errand day).  I'm going to drag every Christmas item I have out, make a display on the patio and photograph it in that lovely setting so that I have photos for art fairs and my new website (another story for another time).  Other than that, reading, enjoying the weather, and room arrangement planning (on paper) is the heaviest lifting I plan to do this evening!

  1. I wish you a speedy recovery as I'm sure you have far too much going on to remain hampered!

I have to tell you that I just superglued my night glasses as well (the ones I wear before and after removing my contact lenses). Since we won't be home for another five weeks, I needed to find a quick fix, and the glue has held up perfectly so far.

I really need to get bifocal lenses anyhow, so I'm considering it the nudge I needed to get my current glasses replaced once we get home.

    1. My glue is working well although a tiny drop got on the lens corner. For what its worth (and I did not do this), my brother said that a thin layer of clear drying elmers on top of the outside would add support.

  2. Ouch! I too have a bad knee. I refused the shot -- cortisone, I presume -- and so far I've been okay. I did lose a little weight; and I ice it when it acts up; but so far it's still holding me up.

    1. No Tom,this is NOT cortisone. This is a liquid gel substance that expands to cushion the knee. And for the record, the shot does NOT hurt itself. Its just pressure for less than a minute. It does hurt for about six hours afterward and you have to elevate the leg and be gentle the next few days.

  3. I was unaware of this type of shot. If I am like most of us my knee will demand some form of attention in the not-too-distant future. I'll be interested to hear how it works for you.

    Christmas decoration in August..why not!

    1. Bob, I've had this shot before, and I worked well. It was over three years ago and now I am back.

guess I wasnt clear on the Christmas stuff-Im photograph all my Christmas quilts and table runners and the like and need some decorations to make them look the part.

  4. Um .. I probably wouldn't want to take photos of that either ;)

I've superglued a couple of DH's readers. They don't hold up forever, but it did buy him several more months of use.

    1. The glasses fell apart after a day. Unfortunately they are on and off my face all day. I took a trip to Visionsmart and low and behold they had frames still. I bit the bullett

    1. Oh for heaven's sake, I am not sure how I and everyone else missed such type. FIRST floor. FIRST floor, lol. This is a ranch house with a finished basement. Laundry is in the basement but sis will do the carrying if need be.

No stairs, the doctor would kill me!

  6. So sorry about the knee. I felt weak just looking at the photo. I've only had cortisone with poor results. My real question is why is your belongings going on the 3rd Level of your new home. Did I miss something?

    1. No, I missed a terrible type-should read first floor. Its a ranch with a finished basement.

I refuse cortisone, and honestly this did not hurt. a tiny bit of pressure for one minute. and he did such a good job that my after pain was just a couple hours. Its kind of like when you get your blood drawn-if they shove that needle in there and it coes out, no bruise. But if they have to wiggle a bit its a different story.
