Call it What it Is

I want to say I have no words, and I probably have many of the wrong ones. But there is a need for words, and lots of them. Over and over and over  in no particular order.

It's not just the mob. It's all the people who have enabled Trump so he can enable the mob. There is no we agree to disagree any more. I don't want to hear it even if you are a family or friend. As I posted on FB this morning, my "tolerance and understanding and agreeing to disagree" with regard to Trump voters has left the room. They/You voted for him. You cheered him on, you enabled him, you gave him power, you thought he was funny, you enjoyed the "deplorable" monniker. You are complicit.  Whether you voted for the man, whether you are a congressman or woman who encouraged him in the hope of some money and support, you are complicit. The blame does not just fall on the mob, or on the man who inflamed them. It falls on all of you who put him there. And those of you like all the Republican congress people who remained silent as well.

This is not how democracy works. This is how a revolution in someplace like Venezuela works. The idea that Trump is free to continue his life in the White House (or wherever he runs to for the next week or two) is apalling. How much more damage can he do in that ten days? There should be a 25th Amendment inovcation, and he, his son and his lawyer should be arrested for insurrection and charged and the FBI and Secret service should find the identity of everyone who invaded the Capitol and charge them as well.

America showed what it really thinks of Black People yesterday and it was heartbreaking. If African Americans and others of color had been scaling the walls, they would have been shot in the face and the head. Instead, the Capitol Police (who in my experience are VERY good at what they do in a crisis) simply yelled across the lawn for them to stop.  Why were the National Guard and the CP not standing on the steps. Is it just black people vs white people, or is it this one guy and his supporters.

I'm trying to find something positive in the fact that our countdown is only 13 days and that maybe a reputation may have been ruined. That Mitch McConnell can kiss his majority goodbye, and that Stacy got her revenge. But we cannot just go on. The people who did this need to be accountable. Now. By whatever method that is. As do the people who just stood by and watched, and I don't just mean for last night only.

  2. I could not believe my eyes. This was not happening here-in America? But it was. I, too, hope his supporters 'finally' open their eyes to see that man would stop at nothing to stay in power. I counting the days until he leaves.

    1. I honestly don't understand his attraction. I hate the other senator's politics as well, but at least he's generally a person of some ethics and honor.

  6. Yep, such anger can be expected in a nation where millions of people have been long-term shut out from their jobs, for no better reason than a flu epidemic. But of course, entItled boomers don't want to hear that, and really don't give a rip about the future of young able-bodied people.

    1. It's always interesting when people don't have enough courage to sign their names to their opinions. But I'll allow others to respond for now. Attacking the houses of congress because your candidate list is neither about anger nor is it about Covid. If president Trump had more actively worked to stop its spread and help out the people who needed helping this would be a whe
      Different pickle.

    2. 'and really don't give a rip about the future of young WHITE able-bodied people' . . . there, I fixed it! Because, Anonymous, that really is what you meant, right? Your concern is all about white people, and white people only. Every action Trump takes, and every response his base gives, supports that stance 100%.

(Sorry Barb if I overstepped. But I refuse to allow his base to hide from the truth that WHITENESS is all they really care about. It is there in every word they utter, and every action they take.)

    3. PS- I know who your poster is. She's our newest troll currently making the rounds. Same limited language, same racist stance everywhere she posts.

    4. It's always interesting how conservative comments - from people who post their names - end up deleted.

    5. Actually, if you were a regular reader here, you would know that I have some regular and friendly conservative commentary Sue. Your other comments were deleted because they were offensive and inappropriate. If you'd like to post a fully thought out readabke comment instead of a one off as Janette and some of my other posters do, it would be welcome. Prior to this there is only one other commenter who I have consistently deleted.

    6. Basically a flu epidemic? My young, previously able-bodied daughter in law recently got rid of her wheelchair and is finally able to walk six steps using two hiking poles after having a Covid stroke July 5. She still can't read a book and naps every day. Who knows when or if she'll recover fully. You ever see that with the flu? Not to mention the hundreds of thousands who have died. I'm really tired of selfish, uncaring people.

    7. Are we talking about the young, able-bodied guy from Maryland who wore his work badge to the riot and was promptly fired for cause? And btw, Maryland has a fabulous Republican governor who has handled the pandemic (not flu epidemic) brilliantly!

    8. Yes they do, Bobo snd I voted for the republican Warner the entire time I loved in Virginia. I am not opposed to conservatism or Rebublicanism as such.

    9. Barb- I am a libertarian willing to be out there with a balanced view. Period. I differ and agree with many conservatives and many liberals. In these days it is dangerous for me for you to call me out as a Conservative commentator, just as it was dangerous for me to be labeled liberal in the late 90's (as I was).

  7. My thoughts exactly! I have said all along he is a despot...but everyone around was making excuses for him.
As I watched it unfold on TV I shouted to an empty room (live alone) Had this been a BLM protest there would have been blood running in the streets.
I do not think we can handle or should have to be subjected too another 13 days of him...he needs to be gone now!!!

  8. Trump's supporters are the same people who have been waiting to fight someone, anyone who run counter with their ideas of freedom. Read a few sites that host these people. They are religious fanatics, misogynists, and people who want to be separate from society. But, your words encourage me to believe everyone is not mad and "tolerant." It is time for the tolerance of crazies to end.

  9. I totally agree Barbara. Well said. There needs to be accountability on all fronts. The thugs, the President and the Congressmen who still support that clown in the White House. He needs removed now.

  10. Agreed. I live in Canada and have been watching what has been happening in the US for the last four years. Yesterday's shit show was horrifying to say the least. Sadly, we have pockets of Trump supporters here in Canada too. They carry the Confederate flag, put up posters suggesting our Prime Minister should be hung for treason, and consider Covid-19 a hoax. The misinformation and conspiracy theories abound, just as they do in the USA. We just have smaller numbers of these people.

    Take care and stay well!

  11. The fact that he is still lying, the fact that some can not fathom that it was people who voted for him and blame antifa and supposed moles from the Democrats for this is sickening. I am so sorry that this has happened.

    God bless.

  12. All I can say is that I hope he is removed immediately!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. So agree with everything you said.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I agree he needs to be removed immediately - because a lot of bad stuff can happen in 13 days.
Trump got his people riled up and then sat back in the Oval Office and watched, I imagine smiling.

  15. We are still wondering why people sat on their hands for 4 years. It was obvious from the get go that we were watching a train wreck.

  16. The man is a disgusting, deplorable excuse for a human. At this point anyone that still supports him is either just like him, or thinks it’s ok. The scary thing is he got over 70 million votes.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I agree. My patience left long ago.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I doubt at this point he can be removed because cabinet heads resigned and there will not be enough to agree with Pence if he is willing to remove him. So, impeach him. He is dangerous now and when he leaves office. He must be held accountable. The world is watching.

  19. Thank you. Watched this from Australia in horror. Even now our useless husk of a Rime Minister is refusing to strongly condemn Trump for inciting an armed insurrection.

Biden and Harris have a lot of work to do to heal the country. But Trump and his sycophants must be accountable.

  20. I was incredulous at the footage of rioters just walking around the inside of our Capitol, sitting in chairs and vandalizing offices, while police looked on.. amazing and incomprehensible. As you say, if they were another color the scene would have been so much different. What an appalling example of what America has become.,I am so ashamed. He needs to be locked up and we all need to examine the roots of our attitudes in this country and find ways to begin to heal this indecency.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I agree with you 150%. In addition, this whole thing was planned online in plain sight. Trump knew it and I believe the insurrectionists had help within law enforcement and within the capital police to explain the lack of resources before all hell broke loose. Trump himself had to be begged to allow the National Guards to go in.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well said!!! It is just horrifying what has happened. They must remove him from office one way or the other. He is a disgrace and traitor to this country.

    ReplyDelete
  23. You've said exactly what I thought from the very beginning. Even now I can't believe how many people are willing to sit back and let him continue. *sigh* He doesn't have a shred of human decency. He's treated the most sacred office and trust in the world as if it's a reality show and he's garnering ratings.

I don't know if the National Guard would've been called out at all if Mike Pence hadn't done it. I wonder if the Capitol Police response was exactly as DT planned it. He'd have loved to have a civil war on his hands so he could proclaim Marshall Law and use it as justification to stop the inauguration on the 20th.

DT has washed his hands of any semblance of duty to anyone but himself and he's lied so long and so loud that he believes himself. In my opinion, we can't get rid of him fast enough. He should be impeached so he can't ever run again.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I agree with you 200%. Seriously. You've said it beautifully. I just learned Twitter has banned his account permanently. It's ABOUT TIME! I understand that the Capitol police were totally unprepared and actually refused Federal help. I'm very suspicious of this. Maryland had a lot of National Guard ready to assist but wasn't allowed to. Crazy. Absolutely crazy.

    1. Thats not my understanding. The mayor asked early in the day. The capital.pice are fantastic but they have some issues at the top. Honestly the best thing about policing is also the worst thing. Ten different agencies in a few mile radius.

    2. Just read an put fit today that the pentagon refused to allow the guard weapons, riot gear or to do anything that was not for self defense so I am even more sure this lands on the Pentagon's heads.
