Meanwhile, a brief political aside.........I live in Colorado for now. A state where we have mail in voting. There, I said it. Where every registered voter gets a ballot in the mail sometime in early October. And then does one of three things: Mails said ballot in, drops said ballot off at a sealed and secure drop box location or, if that's their thing, waits until actual voting day and stands in line if they are physically able and willing. And, contrary to Republican fear mongering, we don't have fraud, as shown here. And wonder of wonders, we actually elect people from all parties, including Republicans. While we have a Democratic governor, we've had Republians, and we have both a Democratic and a Republican senator, although I expect that to change in November (not so much because he's a Republican as such, as because he's a total asshole, especially on the cutting Medicare thing). It's pretty equal all the way down the line.
I do admit that for the coming election, we are more experienced as such, and well prepared. But mail in balloting does not as such encourage fraud. So whether you are a regular reader who worries about such, or just an occasional visitor who wants to comment on a semi political comment, consider this: If you want to make sure everyone votes only in person on election day, then make election day a damn National Holiday and make sure every polling place is both covered and handicapped accessible.
On the home front, I'm still nesting and keeping busy at home. Quilting, sewing, knitting, exploring all the Nordic Noir I can, planning ahead, reading, spending outside time.....Every so often I feel the call for the people, especially my women, but I am doing suprisingly well. Today I cancelled my meetup group
I've been thinking abut what it means to live alone, and I've decided that with the addition of a bit of a daily schedule (who, me?) I'll be fine, between the large patios, common and green spaces, and my daughter stopping by again and again, and my time at her house. I've decided that they will be in my bubble, working or not. Just not unwilling to do without it, ya know? I'm also still wavering on bedroom numbers, and apartment size. Another story there, though.
Looking at beginning to physically pack on October first for a move on October 13-14 (I am very downsized), I've made a list for the next seven (seven????!!!) weeks. I'm in the unique position of not having to take everything since son and sister will be here and I can hire another truck later but there are things I need to do-some of which involve son as well. And there is stuff that needs to go, listing on Next Door or whatever. Going through Christmas and fall stuff and garage storage. There are three bedrooms on this level and one of them will be my stuff that doesn't go, he can have the other two.
I think my daughter has already picked out a living room set for me, bless her heart (and yes I mean that in the nicest possible way, not the southern way.)It will be different mainly furnishing a home from scratch, I tell you.
She knows I love blue! Seriously though, I believe only the sofa will fit. That and perhaps a big ottoman instead of the coffee table. |
I agree with all the political and voting stuff you wrote. "Bless her heart" in the South is not a compliment at all--She is dumb or otherwise impaired and just can't help it."
ReplyDeleteI just said today that I couldn't believe I made a hair appointment into September. It's been both the longest and shortest year.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful living room set but I can't imagine it fitting in most of the condo communities I've seen.
It wi l l take up.much if my living room, but im okay with that. I require a reclining couch for my issues. If I need to leave the love seat behind I will.
DeleteEnjoyed your musings I don't want this lovely summer weather to end!
ReplyDeleteFor sure!
DeleteSummer is passing by so quickly. What is left will be gone in the wink of an eye.
ReplyDeleteLove the set your daughter picked out for you.
God bless.
Hopefully you’ve thought of this already, but if you move in October you will be a resident of TX on Election Day. TX will need your vote! 😄
ReplyDeleteYea, in this case Colorado needs my vote more than Texas I think as Colorado is a swing state with a chance to take the Senate. I can see Gardener losing but not Cronyn, truthfully. Which is why I'm not actually moving until mid October since ballots will be mailed the 9th.
DeleteRoot beer floats! A friend recently brought A&W root beer to the house for that very thing. Unfortunately (or fortunately) it's still in the fridge as we were too full after the wiener roast to indulge. I hear you about August. It's like a switch was flipped last week and fall is in the air. Peas & beans are usually harvested here in NE Alberta the end of July; crops are turning golden; mountain ash berries are turning red. Yes, fall is coming on strong. Your days will be full with the pending move.
ReplyDeleteI hsve the root beer but not the ice cream, lol
DeleteYour new place will be beautiful. What a wonderful adventure you will be going on.
ReplyDeletenot sure if it's an adventure, but I'm on it.\!
DeleteI enjoy hearing about your days. I am lonely for my women friends.Zoom only goes so far and some days I am not in the mood for the virtual thing. I also love summer, yes, even here in Arizona! HEAT makes my muscles and body just feel so warm and good..I hurt less all over! Luckily, after “summer” we get a whole lot of spring for months on end and never a real winter! I used to enjoy moving, but we have done it way too much for my spirit and so reading about PACKING gives me the heebie jeebies... but I know you are ready for this! 7 weeks?? WOW! Yes, this year is flying by.. maybe that[‘s good and maybe not! LOL! Nothing is for certain these days! Like you,I’m doing best I can,day to day.Art,music, cooking, crafts, self study aroma therapies, reading,TV shows.. but I really really really miss my old life when I could go to the movies and theater, the museums, and eat IN a restaurant now and then!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am only taking a pod so my packing is severely limited. the bad news, is, I'm gonna need alot of new stuff. the good news is, I get to get alot of new stuff, lol
DeleteI had a loveseat recliner in tiny home in Maui. Great for napping! Did you know you can get semi-customer furniture for same cost as furniture store? Height from the floor (I like higher as it is easier to get up) depth (from knee to back of you bum) and it is fantastic! You can also choose the firmness of the cushion. If you will be entertaining, get TWO love seats. Easier to rearrange!
ReplyDeleteIm.going to try and get both of these if they fit, if not just the sofa and then a smal coordinating chair..i.know you can get customized stuff but this is actually very comfy for me. No entertaining till after civid but then you bet. Did you turn off comments for your blig?
DeleteI have worked many elections in Ohio. Have worked every job there is associated with the Board of Elections. The mail-in voting is absolutely secure and every ballot counted. As you know, it is the only way many voters have access. The military, college students etc. This year All nursing home and assisted living residents will need to mail-in their ballots. So a large number of people would be denied the right to vote if they could not vote by mail. I encourage everyone to request your ballot early (if required in your state) and return it quickly. Every vote DOES count.
ReplyDeleteI'll have voted by the second week in October at the latest.
DeleteYou're right, mail-in is the only way to go this year. But really, they ought to be able to figure out how we can do it by computer. If we feel secure enough to bank online we should be able to vote online. P.S. Another vote in favor of the blue sofa -- it's nice!
ReplyDeletethanks.Never actually thought about computer before!
DeleteSeven weeks? Wow, that's coming up fast! With all the preparations you've made I'm sure it will go smoothly.
ReplyDeleteTake care and stay well!
It is and im not taking alot, but I don't want to be caught unaware
