Tuesday Things-Week 4

Confession time:  It's five in the afternoon and today I went outside at two thirty. Admittedly with my tablet and notebook. And I came inside at a quarter after four. Yes, the notebook and tablet were with me.  But use them a great deal I did not. It was seventy five degrees outside and as I keep telling my soon to be retired sister you are allowed to do nothing in retirement. Whenever you want. Hopefully not all day but whenever you want.

This morning my son and I spent some time and pulled out a large tub of memorabilia that included papers and mixed up photos and did some sorting. Actually, he did the sorting. The first tier sorting I guess you could say. He took all of his and his sister's photos and made a very large box of photos we don't need (bad photos, multiples of scenic photos, photos that my parents took of people I don't know that are not relatives, that kind of thing). I am left with n large empty tub, a plastic bin of photos no one wants and a plastic bins of photos I need to sort through by type. As well as a very large envelope of all the developers envelopes my parents kept-which will go to my brother who has the special printer to review and enlarge anything that may be inside.

We remain at home only to date, with the exception of the other two doing half an hour dog walks twice a day. Today I put some fabric out front for a neighbor who is making masks. I do have some orders coming this week-one from Schwan's, the aforementioned chair, a grocery delivery. All of which will be sanitized outside and in some cases left in the car for a couple days (no way I can ignore opening the big chair and I think someone even wants the box).

I had thought to do a clicklist order, but decided no. Things work better here if I open my trunk for delivery and sanitize everything outside the house. My son need something to smoke (I have dropped any comments at all during this stressful time for him). I jokingly mentioned that this one time I would pay the order fee for cigarrettes. He suggsted that a quick trip to the gas station with a mask and showering and chnaging clothes afterward would give him cigarettes, enable him to change the propane tank with minimal contact and get the gas can filled for mowing. I don't like it but he may have a point..

I did pull out my new (new-old) project, my daughter's T-shirt quilt as I had a sudden lightbulb moment as to how I wanted to do it. I also have some red yarn set aside to knit on a second project. It's obvious looking at this closet that I probably could use a red sweater or kimona to go with at least the two blue and one yellow sweaters. I'm not sure about red on me but I am also not a fan of white in any form as clothing. Since I don't want order more than I need to packaging wise, I decided to start the kimono.

This color would not be normally on my radar but I'm hoping accessory wise it will work

As you can see these were sewn on before and taken apart. Hopefully this time is a charm

In the past couple of days I have binged through the Valhalla Murders and rather than The Two Janes, I read a new Marc Cameron book I had preordered. I also tried my first Zoom women' meeting which was an experience for all of us. We will do it again soon, hopefully with more smoothness (only my voice was in attendance)

Today was pay day, and while I'm not sure how thrifty I will end up being (we are three people eating at home three meals and snacks a day, and I am relying on delivery more often than not and the attendant costs), my goal is to pay everything and order everything today  and put the balance toward the Texas pot. Barring dog issues, or things we really need.  I order all my stuff online so I cannot say this store avoidance stuff is saving me money. But I'm working on my list of future needs and Texas wants which is savings inspiration-most of the time.

Basically I am spending more on food  because I am doing delivery only and paying tips and doing some stock ups and spending less on everything else ( gas, entertainment, dining out, hobbies, day trips, clothing and you name it). I've also increased some at home spending in that I've added a streaming service and purchased a kindle book or two.

The greens don't match as such, but my intent was good...

As far as my daily stay at home goals (our governor extended that to the end of February although I was at home before it started):

  • I (obviously) went outside.
  • I dressed in jeans leggings and a nice shirt and matching earrings (good thing cause one ear was a little difficult) just to stay at home
  • I haven't walked yet, but I did a half an hour of sitting weights and core exercises and stretches
  • I did a creative project/Something from my social distancing list above
  • I did no social interaction outside of my house
  • I plan to throw a store bought ham and potato caserole into the oven for dinner
  • I am doing online lent meditations or streaming at bedtime.

  1. This is something of a test comment - I think I have discovered a workaround so that I can once again comment on Blogger. Safari seems to be what's causing the issues but if I switch to Chrome it goes through.

Anyway, re. the pictures: Like you we had a LOT to go through before we moved over to Hawaii, even after sorting. We paid our daughter to scan them and put them up on Google cloud. Some were so old that they were stuck to the pages of albums, so we had her scan the whole page then, but that didn't happen too often. It was a big job and took her almost her whole summer vacation, but they are now safe and easy to access when I want them.

  2. I seem to be having one upbeat day and one sad day.. in rotation. But not as bad as some..I am blessed with general optimism and decent coping skill, still ,some days I am “at sixes and sevens” and just seem to wander around, sit on patio and daydream, or just read for hours. As you say,I’m retired I can do what I want!! Today was an upbeat day and we went out for bike rides early before people were out for their exercise, we are being reeeealllly careful. I got stuck on a train track and went flying off my bike! My greatest fear was that I broke something and would need to go to — gulp—- a hospital!! Nothing broken thank goodness,,just some bad scrapes and bruises, and pretty sore in a few places. I will not give up exercise.have to keep moving but my husband now insists we wear helmets. I’m baking, cooking, eggplant Parmesan and fresh broccoli with garlic for tonight, a Tuna Pot pie with a homemade crust for tomorrow.A banana bread and a lemon pie on the Horizon (see I have to keep exercising?) I am missing my old life, the freedom to go for coffee with a friend, meet with my art group, etc.. but will keep trying to use this time to examine deeply what is meaningful and what life will look like “on the other side.”Thanks for sharing your days wiht us!

    1. Oh dear. Do be careful. This is why I exercise in my living room and encounter nature in my yard. Coordination or lack of it. I agree. The days vary sn awful lot.

  3. I do what I want when I want, too. I took a very long nap today, something unplanned but obviously needed! You have a lavender notebook? Cool

  4. When it's 75 degrees out you're surely allowed to do whatever you want, including nothing . . . as long as it's outside!

  5. What our stay-at-home marathons are going to leave us with is a lot of cleaned and sorted homes. You're about the fifth blogger I've read about who was talking about organizing photos.

  6. Kudos on the photo clean-up. My son has 'ordered' me to not throw away any pictures so IMO he can do the organizing LOL. The older I get, the less the pictures mean to me. That might sound sad, but it's the truth. I do enjoy getting a small photo of my 2 young grandkids who live far away and oldest GS is graduating from HS and waiting for his grad photos- no ceremony this year...or prom... pr grad bash but he has his college acceptance to his first choice. Let's hope that happens...I still work from home- no face to face visits with any of my clients but we call and have face timed. I just made a big bowl of potato salad and have leftover chili from Monday- 4 weeks Friday that I haven't shopped- not even once or online. I get a produce delivery Thursdays and those veggies are my mainstay plus cheese and eggs! I'm fine- stay safe.

  7. Life goes on in a dialed down way. House cleaning, meal planning & prep, exercise, connecting with friends & family, etc. continue in this pandemic. I'm not reading any more than usual. I just started Aria by Nazanine Hozar. I enjoy the connections through the blogging world, including yours, even more than before. I spend more time streaming on the internet and consequently, monthly costs for that service have increased. I've come across some treasures including a memorabilia box of my maternal grandfather that included letters from his dad that are 60+ yrs old. I've made some big batch freezer items, i.e. pyrogies, sugar cookies (mailed to the grandkids). There's still snow on the ground here in NE Alberta with spring temps this week. Soon there will be no end of things to do when the outside spring work begins. I will keep on keeping on.

  9. I have scanned a few of the pictures I inherited from my parents and posted them on Facebook asking if any of the relatives know the people in them. Surprisingly most are friends or relatives. Still have a few to go through, but I am getting there.

    Love the red yarn.

    God bless.
