Tuesday, Week 2 ...Plenty of Food

Disclaimer: I understand this is more blogging than I do....I'll try and make it shorter on some days, but don't feel the need to comment every single day if you are not moved to........Just saying.

Today, I spent some time looking at the March expenditures (as well as rough budgeting out the next couple of months),  even though the month has a ways to go. We've about doubled (easily) our groceries expenditures.  Fear not, we aren't hoarders as such-although coming from the east coast I am of the "have at least two weeks of everything" mind set.

Our first shopping trip  was the first of March just after I got back from Texas (how long ago that seems) and was a two hundred dollar fill in. After that I made a list of everything in the freezer and made a second shopping trip/order (you could still do that at the first of March) and got what I hoped was everything I needed to make meals from the above. At this point our main weekly shopping is fresh produce, eggs, butter, milk, coke and maybe fresh orange juice. I suspect we have plenty of frozen if we cannot get out. Put simply, our fridge and chest freezer is full to the gills.  It's not evenly divided, in fact it's heavy on the beef. But at the end of the day, I imagine we have close to twenty meals and maybe twenty five since my sister did some shopping,

The good news is that we will have no grocery spending as such for the forseeable future. the bad news is that my stock up did not include paper products or cleaning wipes.

I hope to either get a meal list, and/or the freezer list up in the next day or so, for all the world to see, judge and make suggestions.

Today I:

  • Went for a twenty five minute outside walk,  and sat in the full sun in the back yard with my knitting. I'm going to do this alot in the next few weeks and ignore the sunscreen thing. I need that vitamin D
  • Housewise I did a little organization in my bedroom organzation zone and my laundry
  • Ironed my little Easter bunny and set everything up so that I can quilt it tomorrow (I finished this guy two days before Easter last year and had no time to use it so this year it is finish it up time). I'm also knitting away as fast as I can.
  • Noticed that other than waving at a couple when I was walking I have spoken to no one but sister and son for a couple days,  although I have spent sometime online as usual.
  • Downloaded the first Ace Atkins Quinn Colson book and intend to dive into it tonight. I watched about fifteen minutes of a new Icelandic cop thriller show on Netflix and haven't decided whether to go all or not.
  • Got a notice that my prescription refill is ready. Call me paranoid,  I haven't been out of the house except to walk around the block in two weeks. But it has to be done.
  • Realized that in spite of my dressing in going out of the house clothes and earrings instead of sweats or whatever, I haven't done my tweezing in a week.
Not that I'm sure that last one matters. All beauty salons are closed. I have a hair cut that requires a razor every three weeks, and toenais that I cannot reach to trim on my own, never mind paint. By the time May comes around, it isn't going to be pretty around, here, let me tell ya!!

  1. Next week I swear I'm going to take a page from your book and get organized. Wish it was warm enough here to sit outside!

    1. It would be just too easy for me to fall of the earth if I did not do the basis of some house time, some exercise time and some prayer time. I texted my sister in la to tday to tlk about Texas and see how their lock down was going (she's a nurse supervisor and he's a city manger so they are essential). I said by next week I may be clibing the walls a teeny bit without socialization.

  2. Sounds like you are busy, even in solitude.
I am discovering some interesting places selling good food. Got milk and eggs at Walgreens at 6 am (walked in with the owner of the farm truck). Our gas station has taken on selling tomatoes or grapes (in packages), apples and oranges! No food desert here. Our co op opens in two weeks. I cannot wait! We all agree - the stores are crazy.

  5. Walking and sunshine do wonders in this situation I think. I've been actually calling friends and family on the phone as I too am getting antsy without social contact outside of the person I live with. They seem overly grateful to be called if they aren't of the generation trying to work full time from home while caring for young children LOL.

  6. I haven't been out except to walk the half block to the mailbox. I have been keeping in touch by phone, e-mail and text with friends and family. I had to laugh at the last bit, I think we're all going to look a bit scruffy before all this is over!

  7. I've gotten my very short hair cut every two weeks for the last 20 years. Today would have been my haircut day. I hope this ends soon, because if my stylist doesn't work, she is taking in no money. I teased that I'd have a mullet by the time the salon where she works is open again!

  8. I have my husband trim my hair for me. He has been doing it for years and does a great job every time, he give my two teen boys their haircuts as well. He has the proper shears, Wahl clippers, capes, hair clips and combs in his tool bag. The current situation has not changed the way we handle the home haircuts. Saves me hundreds of dollars a year. A friend of mine stopped by to get eggs and mentioned she needed her bangs trimmed as he was brushing them out of her eyes and said being her salon was closed, she was going to try to cut them herself with kitchen shears. I told her don’t do it! Then I volunteered hubby to trim her bangs. She knew that he trims my long hair, but mentioned that short hair is harder to cut than long hair. Hubby agreed that she was correct and mentioned that he give my boys their haircuts and he could trim her bangs. She said ok and took a seat while he got his hair tools. He caped her and she asked that he trim her bangs to the middle of her eyebrows. He did as she asked, and she asked him how her neckline looked as she was getting the mullet thing. He told her that he could trim it up, and asked if she was ok with him using clippers. She said her stylist uses them, so yes. He cleaned up the back and neckline and she was happy with the results. She joked that if her salon wasn’t open soon, ahe would be back in a couple weeks for a full haircut.
